Fly Your (PRIDE) Flag!

Updated: May 1, 2023

Hinckley Pride will be exhibiting at the Atkins Gallery, Hinckley, throughout May. The exhibition honours IDAHOBIT 2023. International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Lesbophobia and Transphobia is observed on May 17th annually. It aims to coordinate international events that raise awareness of LGBT rights violations and stimulate interest in LGBT rights work worldwide. By 2016 the commemorations had taken place in over 130 countries.

The theme for IDAHOBIT 2023 is “Together always: united in diversity”.

When discussing the exhibit with Mathew Hulbert, a local LGBTQ+ activist and co-founder of True Colours, he said

“It's fantastic that LGBTQ+ representation is growing in the town. I hope lots of people, LGBTQ+ folk and our allies, will visit the exhibition, learn about the team behind Hinckley Pride and then be part of Pride Day itself in July."

The exhibition will feature information about Hinckley Pride and our upcoming inaugural Pride in the Park. It will also feature a beautiful series of photographs of our founding committee members, providing a face to Hinckley Pride and bios so you can get to know the team personally.

In addition, there will be a live art installation titled ‘Fly Your Pride Flag’ which will be an interactive piece for our community to get involved with.

A large-scale pride flag has been commissioned and will feature colourised photos of members of the LGBTQ+ community in Hinckley and Bosworth, along with their allies. This will create a visual representation of queer life in the borough.

Youth Ambassador Naomi adds,

“Creating this exhibition has given us an opportunity to connect with the people of Hinckley. We hope it helps the queer community and allies to feel united and celebrated"
